A relaxed August wedding at Pelham House in Lewes

Elizabeth and James’ August wedding at Pelham House was a wonderful example of what I love about photographing weddings there — a relaxed atmosphere, lots of time spent with family and friends, and plenty of opportunities for beautiful photographs without the day ever feeling too formal.

I was there to photograph the couple's entire wedding day, starting with both Elizabeth and James getting ready at Pelham House before their outdoor ceremony in the gardens.

The summer setting made the perfect backdrop for the beginning of their celebrations, with the ceremony taking place outside surrounded by the beautiful gardens of Pelham House.

After the ceremony, everyone enjoyed a relaxed drinks reception, with lawn games giving guests plenty of opportunity to have some fun while catching up with friends and family.

This was also a great time to photograph some of the important family and group photographs, while still keeping things relaxed and natural.

The relaxed atmosphere continued into the wedding breakfast, followed by the speeches.

As always, I spent much of this part of the day working quietly in the background, capturing the reactions, laughter and little moments between Elizabeth, James and their guests.

After the wedding breakfast and speeches, we headed into Lewes for the couple's portrait session at Lewes Castle.

I always enjoy having the opportunity to take couples away from the venue for part of their portraits. It gives the photographs a completely different feel and, in this case, the historic setting of Lewes Castle provided a fantastic backdrop for Elizabeth and James.

It was also a lovely chance for the two of them to have some time together away from the celebrations before heading back to Pelham House for the evening.

Back at Pelham House, the evening celebrations began with the cake cutting and first dance before the party really got going.

There was plenty of dancing, lots of fun with family and friends and, of course, pizza to keep everyone going!

It was a lovely way to finish the day — relaxed, fun and full of the people who mattered most to Elizabeth and James.
